I made the decision to sign up for an online program to help assist me with my drawing path. While searching for a good curriculum for myself I ran across the Atelier program. Unfortunately, the closest ones are still 3+ hours away. In a moment of desperation I searched for online Atelier and found Watt’s Atelier from California. The online program had only been launched a few months prior, and I found myself nodding my head way too much when the director spoke about the curriculum purpose and path of his Atelier.
I skipped exercise 2a and 2b which were copying a famous drawing and then adapting that style to a new drawing. I will hopefully come back to it. Today I had been reading about figure drawing, and so I was excited to try my had at gesture drawings. Each figure was drawn for 60 seconds. I was quickly humbled when I felt myself scrambling and confused. I actually paused the exercise to watch a YouTube video of someone else doing gesture drawings.
This is the final project from Chapter 1, and the one that caused me the most grief. There is a whole list of problems with this drawing, but I have wasted too much time and energy to even care anymore.
This has been my most enjoyable drawing so far. There was only one hiccup when Aurora came and grabbed the bottle. I had to retape it to the counter, but not a big deal.
I had a hard time trying to make circles for the iris and pupils. This was also made harder by the fact I was trying to draw my own. It was really frustrating to draw a bit, look up, reset pose and repeat.
This project involved drawing a bell pepper from memory then draw it while looking at it. Then I learned that my memory is worthless.
I was not able to do them back to back so the positioning of the pepper is different.
